CompBioMed partner UCL was voted onto the the EUDAT CDI Council during the EUDAT Helsinki meeting on 23-27 Jan 2017.
The EUDAT Collaborative Data Infrastructure (CDI) contributes to the work of the successful EUDAT initiative, to develop and maintain a persistent, long-lived data storage and sharing infrastructure that will run for at least 10 years. EUDAT has established an important infrastructure within the European Research Area, giving researchers the tools they need to manage the increasing amounts of electronic data arising from scientific enquiry in the big data age. EUDAT promotes the vision of data that is shared and preserved across borders and disciplines. By working together with academic and industrial researchers, and in collaboration with large scientific data centres, it has been possible to realise this vision.
The EUDAT CDI seeks to continue this work by sustaining the infrastructure developed by EUDAT to provide an environment that allows researchers to work with their data in a safe and trusted environment. UCL has joined as the first institutional member of the CDI. The research perspective of UCL’s involvement is represented by the Centre for Computational Science (CCS) in the Chemistry Department, and the resource provision perspective is represented by the Research IT Services department (RITS)
As part of this collaboration, RITS will look to use many of the tools and best practices developed within EUDAT in the institutional research data service which is currently under construction, giving UCL researchers access to some of the most advanced data storage and collaboration tools available, and emerging open access data standards.
